We are busy in the Admissions Office getting applications and giving tours for prospective families. Remember, our biggest asset and cheapest marketing strategy comes from YOU; POSITIVE WORD OF MOUTH! Please let families know about all of the wonderful things going on in your child's life through the mission and ministry of WCCS. If you have pre-school/kindergarten age children, consider our program for the fall or contact me at lmccutchen@wccs.org for more information.

Our varsity co-ed swim team had amazing success at the recent MAC Championship tournament. Our girl's finished in third place, the boys finished in fourth place, and overall, the team placed third. While the team collected many second and third place awards, Matthew Lollis took first place in the 100 meter free style race. The results from the MAC Championship allowed, for the second year in a row, each of our swimmers to qualify for the State meet, which will be held at the Huntersville Aquatic Center in Huntersville, North Carolina. If you would like more information or directions, please contact the athletic office (328-5468 or kjollie@wccs.org).
As a reminder, your athlete needs a current physical and Parental Release Form on file to participate in each sport. If you are not sure when your child's physical expires, please contact Karla Jollie (328-5468 or kjollie@wccs.org).

One Heart, One Mind, One Purpose ... Philippians 2:2
All of Life is a School
"We know that all things work together for good of those who love God; those who are called according to His purpose" Rom 8:28. I have been recently reading Henry and Richard Blackaby's book, Spiritual Leadership. The other day I was struck by their encouragement for leaders, "The fact that God can bring character development and personal growth out of any situation is conditional on people's willingness to submit to God's will. God is sovereign over life, but those who yield their will to him will be shaped according to his purposes. When God directs a life for his purposes, all of life is a school. No experience, good or bad, is ever wasted. God doesn't squander people's time. He doesn't ignore their pain. He brings not only healing but growth out of even the worst experiences."
Many times we associate God's will with doing a certain thing, living in a certain place, or following a certain direction. However, these things are often subject to unanticipated change, but what is constant is regardless of our circumstances that God's will is always the call to grow in grace and the intimate knowledge of Him. He enrolls us in the school of abiding. John 15:5 & 8, "I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him produces much fruit, because he can do nothing without Me . . . My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be My disciples."
C.S. Lewis once said, "There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to whom God says, "All right, then, have it your way." Life experience teaches us that having things our own way usually leads to an unfulfilling result, while abiding in Christ and embracing His will frees us from the selfish insistence on controlling our circumstances. School is in session. |

"Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." Romans 12:10-11
Julie Silverthorn Volleyball Tournament: The annual volleyball tournament honoring Julie Silverthorn is scheduled for Thursday and Friday evening, February 25 & 26. This event is sponsored by the WCCS Beta Club. We encourage all of you to come out and watch some of the games in support of this tournament fundraiser that is raising funds for Haiti. Mr. Keith Falde, one of our high school science teachers, is a former missionary to Haiti and through his connections, we will be able to support a church and Christian school located there.
32nd Annual USC - Lancaster Honors Day: A good number of our NHS juniors and seniors will be joining students from other area schools in this annual event that offers the opportunity to participate in Academic Quizzes, Creative Competition, and Honors Bowl. This event will be held on Friday, February 26, during the school day. We wish our participating students well and know they will represent WCCS admirably.

"But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children-"Psalm 103:17
Teacher Appreciation Week, March 8-12: There will be a planning meeting regarding Teacher Appreciation Week Feb. 18 from 1-2 p.m. in the small conference room in the Admin building on the Catawba Campus. If you are interested in participating in the planning of this week, please plan to join us. If you have any questions, please call Joy LeForce at 324-3759 or email JLEFORCE@aol.com.
Parent Volunteer Policy: We wanted to thank all of you who volunteer your time so that we can offer a variety of opportunities for our students. The teachers appreciate your assistance in the classroom, ExploreLAB, PTF, PArts, and the Indian Club. Without your help, many activities we currently offer would not be possible. At times, parents volunteer to relieve classroom teachers by taking their class to lunch or recess. In an effort to provide the safest possible environment for students, the Leadership Team has adopted a new policy concerning parent volunteers. Our goal is not to discourage parents from volunteering but to make sure they are equipped to handle any situations that might arise while the teacher is not present. This safeguards both their best interests and those of the students. The new policy reads:
If volunteers supervise students without the teacher present, they must be qualified as a substitute teacher through the school office. Parents may only volunteer to supervise a class of students without the teacher present during their recess and lunch periods.
Qualifying as a substitute teacher involves completing an application, interviewing with the principal, and submitting to a background check. Although lunch and recess are not academic periods, they are when students are most vulnerable to accidents. We want parents to have information about Crisis Management procedures, playground rules, and lunch procedures before taking the class without the teacher present.
We appreciate your support of the teachers and principals as we strive to provide the best possible education for each student. Parent volunteers are welcome in the classroom, so if God is prompting you to serve, please talk with your teacher about needs and scheduling. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact either of us in the school offices.
Westminster Prayer Group: We are fighting a spiritual battle for the hearts and lives of our children. Prayer is vital to our defense. Please join the parent prayer group that meets every Wednesday from 8 - 8:30 a.m. in MPB room 7. Matthew 18:19 says, "Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven." Your prayers make a difference!
ExploreLAB: Wednesday, Feb. 17, the Kindergarten students will explore magnets learning how they work. The 2nd grade participate in the "Build It Festival" on Tuesday, Feb. 23. We appreciate all the parent volunteers who make this program possible.

STAR - Janice Carter |
Twelve brave men went to spy on the enemy owned land. The land was rich and plentiful. It would be a good land to raise children and build a nation. They gathered some of the produce as bounty and continued exploring. At last they reported back to their leader. All twelve men agreed that the land was bountiful and rich. However, ten of the men were filled with fear at the people that lived there. They told the leaders they had seen people like giants. The cities were greatly fortified, and the people were big and strong. It is a useless cause. They would never be able to go in and possess this land. Yet two of the men said, "We can take them. What are giants to us? Look at how far we have already come. God has brought us to this Promised Land. He will give it over to us." The children of Israel did not listen to the two spies; instead they chose to fear the giants. For that, God made them wander in the wilderness until each one who had not trusted His provision had died.
Everyday we spy giants that seem too big and fearsome for us to conquer. A giant may be a deadline. A giant of sickness or a financial giant can often scare or worry us to defeat. Our children face giants here at school, too. Here are a few of their names: Giant Peer Pressure, Giant Grades, Giant Test and Papers, Giant Got To Fit In, Giant Insecurity, Giant You are Different, The twin giants...Giant No One Likes Me, and Giant Everyone Likes Me, and even Bully Giants.
While most of these giants may seem small to us as adults, they are huge to our children. How can we help them want to be more like the two spies, who believed they could take and conquer the giants with God's help? The two spies knew they would not be facing these giants alone. We need to help our children believe that not only will we help them, but also even more so, God will help them. We need to teach our children that God has a plan for them...it is His job to see that the plan is carried out. We just need to walk in faith in that plan.
WCCS is distinctively Christian, not because it is stated in our name but because God is ever-present in every area of our lives, whether or not we proactively acknowledge Him. He sees, hears, and knows everything about us here at school. He knows some of us struggle in the classroom and those giants that incite frustrations. God will not study for us, but He is our ever-present help and will provide whatever we need to study and be successful. He provides support services including accommodations for those who need them, to help them demonstrate on a test what they have learned. He will also help students retain material they study and help them demonstrate it on papers and tests. God wants all of His children to succeed. He wants them to enter their own Promised Land. A land He has made for them filled with jobs, family, friends and ministry. Each one of our STAR students can face their giants and be successful because it says so in Philippians 4:13. Anytime someone says or implies you can't or they can't do something, they call God a liar. We know God cannot lie.
Hold on to the promise in Jeremiah 29:11 which states "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Let us be like those two spies who trusted God's faithfulness to his promises. God is still able to do exceedingly above what we could ask or imagine. | |
