Thank you for your interest in Westminster Catawba Christian School! Allow me to tell you a little about who we are, and, in doing so, why we do what we do.
The short answer is that God is God, that we exist to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever, and that we do that as citizens of His Kingdom (where Jesus reigns as King). If this is true, then it affects every area of our lives – since there is not a square inch that Jesus does not cry out, “MINE!” (Abraham Kuyper).
We are called to serve the King, as His ambassadors, in His Kingdom. That service of the King is our calling! This is true for individuals, but it is also true for us, as a school. We have even created an “end statement” to sum up our reason for existence:
Our school exists to educate students to bless our world as disciples of Jesus Christ.
It is our sincere desire that every single one of our students be followers (disciples) of Jesus Christ. To truly be like Christ, they must be “other-focused”, seeking not to be served, but to serve – not to only be blessed, but to bless. This other-focus does not come naturally. We must have it taught to us by others who are living it out. It is for this reason that our faculty and staff are focused on teaching the next generation about the Kingdom of God.
Students must be taught well. They must see the world around them as created by God, stained by sin, and in the process of being redeemed. They must be taught to see the gap between the way things are and the way things are supposed to be. In doing so, the King will develop in them a passion for the Kingdom and a desire to make right what is wrong. This passion becomes a calling, and the pursuit of that calling is what it means to bless the world as disciples of Christ.
In the end, we would agree with the writer of 3 John 4 who states:
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
For WCCS to be successful in the pursuit of this statement, students must be taught well. They have to master the basic 3 R’s of Reading/Writing/Arithmetic. They also have to learn about the world around them as they study:
They need to learn how to get along with each other (as part of the body of Christ), how to use their gifts (for God’s glory and not their own), and even how to behave (seeking to be like Jesus who was without sin).
It seems that every aspect of what children are to learn in school is necessary, but also that every single one has a perspective to teach us about who God is and why that matters to us. Some of these lessons come more naturally than others. But, they are all necessary – especially if we are going to be able to bless our world as disciples of Christ.
At Westminster Catawba Christian School, we currently educate over 600 children, early childhood through 12th grade, on two separate campuses in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Our job is to partner with Christian parents to raise up the next generation of Christians – coupling whatever gifts God has provided them with His call on their lives – to further His Kingdom!
If you, as parents, desire the same for your children, then WCCS might be the right place for you. We invite you to visit and find out how we can partner with you to educate your children to bless our world as disciples of Jesus Christ.
