Because God has uniquely created every child, learning naturally takes place in a variety of ways. While one student may thrive in a traditional academic environment, another student might truly flourish with a program tailored to his or her strengths & abilities. This is where the EXCEL Program at Westminster Catawba Christian School can help!
There are seven (7) different services offered through our EXCEL Program, each carefully designed to nurture and challenge students according to their individual learning needs. Please select any service below for additional information. (Services are available to students that meet specific criteria and as space is available.)
S.E.E.K. is one of the enrichment programs offered at WCCS. It is designed to meet the needs of students who exhibit extraordinary performance capability in intellectual and creative endeavors. The acronym stands for Students Exploring and Enriching for the Kingdom. Classes are offered to students in grade 2 through 5. Students qualify by means of a screening process each year and are invited into the program according to availability.
Our SEARCH and TEACH program is designed for those students in Kindergarten (K5) who might benefit from some additional instruction to help establish a solid academic foundation for their elementary school years. All K5 students at WCCS are screened for this service, and parents are consulted if their student may be a candidate.
Accommodations Monitoring is a service offered through the EXCEL Program at WCCS. After evaluating a student’s unique educational needs in consultation with parents, EXCEL faculty provides detailed recommendations to that student’s teachers on ways to best accommodate his or her learning. Where practical, those accommodations are implemented in the mainstream classroom by the teacher in order to assist the student in his or her learning. The effectiveness of the accommodations is monitored closely throughout the school year by EXCEL faculty as they collaborate with the mainstream teacher to support the student.
In Educational Therapy, on-site therapists from the National Institute for Learning Development (NILD) provide intervention that focuses on treatment for cognitive systems that could benefit from specialized assistance. This individualized therapy uses interactive language, strategic thinking, and dynamic mediation to develop core academic skills and fluency in processing.
Tutorial Study Hall (TSH) is available for students in grades 9 through 12 with specific academic needs. During TSH, an EXCEL instructor provides assistance with study skills, test preparation, homework, and organizational skills based on individual student’s needs.
Resource Intervention is designed for students who benefit from specialized attention in one or more area of critical need in order to move forward in their educational goals. Resource sessions include 1:1 intervention provided by an EXCEL case manager outside of the mainstream classroom, as well as support provided within the mainstream classroom.
The Inclusion Program is designed to provide necessary intervention to aid in the support of individual academic, intellectual, and social needs of a student by providing them with mainstream and/or self-supported classroom learning opportunities. We are currently exploring opportunities to expand our offerings to students who are in the peer group of Kindergarten-4th graders.
With diverse backgrounds and a wide variety of academic and professional accomplishments, the EXCEL Team at Westminster Catawba Christian School is dedicated to the success of the students in each on of our programs. Below is a list of WCCS faculty members who are part of this incredible group of educators.
Services within the EXCEL Program at Westminster Catawba Christian School are priced individually and are in addition to tuition. To view & download the a price sheet for the EXCEL Program, click here or the button below.
EXCEL services are offered to qualifying students, however limited space is available in this program in order to ensure that student needs are met. The admissions process allows the school to determine which services might best meet the needs of each student and if space within those services is available. Through the admissions process, each family will have a conversation with the principal to determine if the needs of the student can be supported with the services we offer and the space within those services that is available.
Our Self-Supported program offers a nurturing Christian Education to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are currently exploring options to expand our offerings to students who are in the peer group of Kindergarten-4th graders. Click on the link below to learn more about this program!
