Leadership Opportunities

At Westminster Catawba Christian School, students have a variety of opportunities to develop leadership skills throughout high school. Below are simply a few of the options students may pursue.

SALT (Student Activities and Leadership Team)

Middle School and High School students can take part in student government at WCCS. Our SALT Team serves by helping plan and execute student activities such as Spirit Week, Powder Puff, Homecoming, Christmas Spirit Week, Field Day, and more. They are also called upon to serve as representatives of our school as with new families or at events. Students apply to take part in SALT with both elected and appointed positions.

National Honor Society

Beginning in their sophomore year, students with a weighted GPA of 4.25 or higher are invited to apply to be a part of National Honor Society. NHS empowers and equips students with the knowledge and skills to be transformative leaders in our school, community, and beyond. As part of a national charter, NHS develops students in the four pillars of NHS, Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. NHS members serve our school through peer tutoring and are involved in service outside the school as well.

Model United Nations

Model United Nations is an academic and extracurricular activity where students simulate the proceedings of the United Nations by representing a country or organization to discuss and resolve global issues through diplomacy and debate. High School students develop critical thinking, public speaking and research skills, and teamwork while preparing for and taking part in the state Model UN competition.

Other College/University Leadership Opportunities

Palmetto Boys State and Palmetto Girls State

The Palmetto Boys and Girls State programs seek to develop students into young leaders who are interested in local and state governments. Each year, WCCS nominates juniors who demonstrate academic success, leadership among peers, ability to work with others, and an interest in government. Through a series of essays and interviews, one young man and woman are chosen to represent WCCS at the Boys and Girls State conferences. Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY)

Each year, WCCS selects outstanding sophomores that meet HOBY criteria to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar in the summer.
