The Wheaton Family

“WCCS has allowed our boys to grow in their Christian witness… giving opportunities to learn in small group Bible settings, opportunities to lead in chapel, to participate in praise team, to be counseled Biblically, and to be held accountable for Christian witness and responsibility.”

The WheatonsWCCS Family

The Wheaton’s have been a part of the WCCS family since 2015 when they returned to the United States as missionaries. Read on to learn more of their story and why they love the Christ-centered education at WCCS.

Why did you choose WCCS for your child?

We were coming off the mission field and transitioning our family with 5 boys to life in the USA. As third culture kids, this transition was even more challenging for our two upper school students. Gerald (class 2018) was a rising sophomore at that time and Nathan was an 8th grader. We were looking for a school were they would “not get lost in the crowd” and be supported in navigating high school culture and well-supported to achieve academically, exploring interests such as soccer and music.

What do you love most about WCCS?

Godly men have poured into our boys: Mr Falde, Mr, Cooke, Mr. Kidder. Talented teachers such as Ms Reiger have made US history come alive for our boys. Gifted performing arts teacher Mrs. Christopher have challenged our boys to step outside of their comfort zone and explore their gifts.

What is one word that describes our school? Tell us why you chose that word.

Rich: there are so many rich experiences and opportunities available for students at WCCS.

Describe one of your favorite teachers and the impact that this person has had in your student’s life – or perhaps a specific example of a way this teacher has cared for your student in a special way.

Ms. Reiger… “bless her heart” my boys always say! She has challenged them to be aware of history, current events, and to enjoy participating in democracy. She has provided them tools to study successfully at the AP level. She brings a Christian worldview and yet engages the students to think, research, and interact with current events. She makes learning dynamic and rich… she is a HUGE asset to the WCCS faculty.

How is WCCS preparing your child for God’s call on their lives, including hopes, plans, and dreams for college, career, and/or community?

WCCS has allowed our boys to grow in their Christian witness, giving them opportunities to learn in small group Bible settings, opportunities to lead in chapel, participate in praise team, be counseled Biblically, and to be held accountable for Christian witness and responsibility. It has given them opportunities to go on mission trips to be humbled and to serve, it has provided a place to see friends come to know Christ, an opportunity to see how they are uniquely gifted and individually called to live for Christ, and to be a light to the world. The small student body gives everyone a chance to participate and explore new areas like sports, theater, and student leadership.
